Catherine O’Hara History
Catherine O Hara was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario in a large Irish Catholic family. She started her acting career at age 20 as a cast member of The Second City in Toronto. She was an understudy for Gilda Radner until she left for Saturday Night Live. Two years later, this theatre troupe created the television series SCTV, on which she became a regular performer. Her memorable characterizations on the show included Las Vegas scorcher Lola Heatherton, buzzer-happy game show contestant Margaret Meehan, raunchy nightclub comedian Dusty Towne, soap opera seductress Sue Ellen and stage actress Sue Bopper Simpson.
In the late 1970s, O’Hara did voice-overs for a number of cartoons, which would continue throughout her career. During a short time in the early 80s when SCTV was in between network deals, she was hired to replace Ann Risley when Saturday Night Live was being retooled in 1981. However, she quit the show without ever appearing on-air, choosing to go back to SCTV when the show signed on with NBC. Her SNL position was then given to fellow Canadian Robin Duke, who had also replaced O’Hara for a season on SCTV.
O’Hara has appeared in many films in the past two decades, including Martin Scorsese’s After Hours, as well as parts in two Tim Burton films: Beetlejuice and The Nightmare Before Christmas, which also co-starred her fellow Whose Line Is It Anyway? castmate Greg Proops. She played Kate McCallister in the first two Home Alone films. From 1997 to 2006, she starred in the Christopher Guest mockumentary films Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, and For Your Consideration. On June 9, 2007, Catherine O Hara was inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame. In May 2008, it was announced that she has signed on to star in the upcoming ABC dramedy Good Behavior.

Fernando Gonzalez Girlfriend, Meet Gisela Dulko – tennis player Fernando Gonzalez’s girlfriend. According to an Australian press report (via Deadspin) Chile native Gonzalez is dating the 24-year-old professional tennis player from Argentina. Her [ Gisela Dulko ] boyfriend is Chilean Fernando Gonzalez – last year’s popular Australian Open runner-up. The couple are popular in South America, too – at Christmas, Gonzalez and Dulka visited “Las Rosas”, a community of 2500 elderly people in Santiago. “The elder people congratulated Fernando for the girlfriend he has,” explains a Gonzalez fan website.
According to Wiki, Dulko won three of the four Grand Slam events in doubles as a junior, including the 2001 Wimbledon Championships with Ashley Harkleroad. She just beat former tennis champion Maria Sharapova at second round of Wimbledon 2009.
Boys Girls And Other Hazardous Materials

Boys, Girls and Other Hazardous Materials by Rosalind Wiseman. GP Putnam’s Sons, January 2010. Reviewed from ARC provided by publisher. Charlie couldn’t wait to be done with eighth grade. After discovering that her best friends were actually frenemies, mean girls of the highest order, and after what they did… well, Charlie’s ready for the fresh start that Harmony Falls High School offers. Starting her freshman year is exciting and nerve-wracking, but Charlie’s soon plunged into the thick of it. She meets cute boys, joins the newspaper staff, and makes some real girl friends. But when the athletic boys she’s crushing on start to behave badly, Charlie will find that it’s not only girls who can be mean.
I mean, this book was okay. I finished it. My main complaint is that I don’t see that it offers anything new to the YA shelves and it wasn’t compelling or enjoyable enough to get away with it.
I did like the interesting supporting cast of characters – namely Charlie’s best friends Sydney and Nidhi. But the dangerous thing about that is that Charlie seemed boring in comparison. I think either Sydney’s or Nidhi’s story would have been more interesting. I wanted to know more about them.
I also liked the angle of having Charlie and Nidhi on the newspaper staff and I think if that had been a bigger focus, the story might have been a little more unusual.
So, for me, this one was a miss. I’d skip it and recommend Elizabeth Scott’s Something Maybe (if you’re looking for boy-meets-girl) or Alyson Noel’s Cruel Summer (if you’re looking for queen bees).
But what do I know? Kelly over at Stacked loved it. And check out another review at Pirate Penguin’s Reads.
(And for the record, the picture at top is the ARC cover and the picture at bottom is the cover being published on the actual book. I prefer the ARC cover [which is why I included it]. Which one do you like??)
Valerie Bertinelli

The night before Valerie Bertinelli prepared to step out in public wearing a bikini – for the first time in nearly 30 years! – she found herself unable to sleep. As her mind raced with insecurity (“I thought, Am I really going to do this? Can I pull this off?” the actress admits), Bertinelli tried to summon up a pep talk, telling herself, “What am I so afraid of? Come on – it’s just a bathing suit!”
And yet as any woman knows, those innocent-looking strips of Lycra can be a terrifying sight – especially for someone just shy of her 49th birthday (April 23), who only two years ago tipped the scales at 172 lbs. – more than 40 lbs. over her goal weight for her 5?4? frame. But after whittling herself down to 132 lbs. in about 9 months on Jenny Craig (for whom she serves as a company spokeswoman), Bertinelli, who had last worn a bikini when she was 20, was ready for a new challenge.
“I thought, If I’m so afraid of a bikini, there’s something wrong. And so I had to get back into one!,” Bertinelli says in the new PEOPLE, available on newsstands Friday.
And so – after about a year of exercising on her own while losing weight, primarily by walking 10,000 steps a day – she hired a personal trainer in December. Before long she was running up to five times a week. During what she calls the bikini “homestretch” – the last three weeks – she trimmed her daily caloric intake from 1,700 to around 1,200, and gave up her regular “splurge” glass of champagne. “It was crunch time,” she says, “like getting ready for your class reunion!”
The result? Bertinell says she is now in the best shape of her life. “I never, ever, ever had deltoids!” she says. “Oh my God, when I’m doing exercises and I see them pop out, I’m like, Yes!”

DETROIT — The Ford Motor Company’s strong showing in 2009 was reaffirmed Monday with a sweep of the North American Car of the Year and North American Truck of the Year Awards. The awards are given by a jury of automotive journalists from the United States and Canada, and announced here each year at the 2010 North American International Auto Show. The car award went to the Ford Fusion Hybrid, marking the fourth time a gasoline-electric hybrid car has won in the 17 years the awards have been in existence. Ford’s Escape Hybrid sport utility vehicle won the award in 2005.
In the truck category, Ford’s mold-breaking Transit Connect van scored highest with the judges. It was the sixth win in the truck category for Ford, the most of any automaker. Ford also won last year with its redesign of the F-150 pickup.
It was be the third time the same manufacturer has won both awards. Honda accomplished the feat in 2006 with the Honda Civic and Ridgeline. General Motors followed in 2007 with the Saturn Aura and Chevrolet Silverado.
The awards recognize the vehicles that are “benchmarks” in their segments based on factors including innovation, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction and value for the dollar. Vehicles must be new or “substantially changed” to be considered.
This year the jurors considered more than 50 vehicles. Of those, the jurors voted to put 16 cars and 10 trucks on the ballot.
Last year, the awards went to the Hyundai Genesis and the Ford F-150.
Marvin Sapp He Saw The Best In Me
Marvin Sapp He Saw The Best In Me, According to the website, The Belle Report, the night was filled with power, purpose, praise and laughter as the opening act was Sapp’s own brother: gospel comedian Henry Sapp. Ray Bady, youth pastor at Houston’s windsor village church, served as the host. Songs including “Freshwind”, written by Jonathon Dunn, “He Has His Hand on You” written by Stan Jones and “Here I Am” had the congregation on their feet, and disappointed only when Pastor Sapp and his singers stopped singing as witnessed by Belle. One of the top favorite songs for the evening, “He Saw the Best in Me” included these lyrics;
“He saw the best in me, when every one else around me, only saw the worst in me
He’s mine, And I’m His and it doesn’t matter what I did, He only sees me for who I am”
This sounds like another hit CD for Marvin, who has hit his stride after many years in the business.
He told the Belle report, that the above song came to him in the same vein as “Never would have made it” and that he was not going to keep the song had it not been for his label encouraging him to record it.
The project is slated for release in 2010 with a working title of “Here I Am”.
The recording was streamed live at verityrecords.com
Here is what Marvin had to say about the recording:
Celebration Of Gospel 2010
Celebration Of Gospel 2010, Tomorrow night at 8pm EST, BET (Black Entertainment Television) will air it’s annual special BET’s Celebration of Gospel. The network will be celebrating its 10th anniversary of the show which has proved to be one of the highest rating specials on the network to date. Despite changes in ownership, management and programming, BET has managed to keep this special on the air and boy are we glad that it survived the cut. The 2-hour musical buffet is one in which some of the best names in gospel music get together to not only commemorate what they believe but to explore some of the genre’s best music. What I love most about this show is that it doesn’t just feature performances from gospel/inspirational artists.
Mainstream artists alike all flock together for this celebration of gospel music that is rivaled by none other. And with a host like Steve Harvey to provide you with the occasional chuckle and hilarious anecdotes about church-goers and other random subjects, you’re in for one great show. Although the programming on the BET network has become questionable as of late, this is one of the times when you won’t mind watching. The performances are stellar, the voices big and boisterous, the instrumentation poignant and the atmosphere charged. If you’ve never seen it before, this year will definitely be a year you will want to tune in.
The line-up of performers is going to be out of this world. Kelly Price and Ledisi will team up to sing “How Great Thou Art”, American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino and her mother Diane Barrino will sing “He’s Done Enough,m” while the husband and wife team consisting of soul singer Anthony Hamilton and his wife Tarsha Hamilton will sing the track “Better”. If those big names aren’t enough to get you parked in front of your television on January 1oth, I don’t know what is.
Other artists confirmed to perform include Yolanda Adams, Grammy award winners BeBe and CeCe Winans, Fred Hammond, Donnie McClurkin, Pastor Shirley Caesar, Marvin Sapp, James Fortune & FIYA, Tye Tribbett & Greater Anointing, and The City of Refuge P.S.A.L.M.S. Choir are due to perform.
This will be a musical experience you will NOT want to miss. Here’s video from last year’s special including Fantasia, Lil Mo, Coko and Kiki Sheard singing “Endow Me”.
Starving Artist Art Sale

Starving Artist Art Sale, It was a sunny day at the Estate Whim Museum, where the annual Starving Artists Sale was taking place, but it would have been hard to find a sunnier smile anywhere on the museum grounds than that of David Asencio. The 10-year-old artist had just sold another of his drawings, bringing to five the number he had sold. The annual sale at the museum drew a record number of vendors and by noon the crowd was well on its way to topping last year’s total of 1,000. Sale coordinator Althea Franklin said the sale boasted 100 vendors this year, and the organizers had to find room for 18 new booths. Final numbers would not be available until mid-week, she added.
Young David Asencio’s mother, Marlen Jiminez, was one of those vendors, selling jewelry and other arts and crafts, and for the second year in a row she invited David to sell his drawings at the booth.
“He’s always drawing,” she said. “He’s got his imagination going all the time.”
At $2, the drawings of moko jumbies in various guises – including a doctor and a pirate – were a great buy and by 11 a.m. he had sold half of the ten he had brought. A student at Alfredo Andrews Elementary School, he enjoys art, but said he hopes to become a firefighter when he grows up.
Throughout the museum grounds visitors surged through the booths, looking at Crucian crafts, sea glass jewelry and ornaments, paintings and much more, while music drifted out from the recitals of piano, horn and drum students in the main hall and dancers performed on the outdoor stage.
“We’ve had fantastic foot traffic,” said vendor Lea Ann Robson, whose sales space featured Christmas ornaments made of sea glass. “Even though we’ve got a record number of vendors, there’s plenty for everybody.”
David Asencion was not the only young artisan with work on display. Another booth featured the work of three young home-schooled students – Emily Snow, 12, Faith Snow, 10, and Wilie Crowther, 8. The girls had spent weeks stringing intricate necklaces, bracelets and earrings, while Wilie was selling yarn dolls with interchangeable dresses.
Emily Snow said it was hard to say which part was better, creating the crafts for the sale or manning the booth and interacting with the potential customers flowing by.
“They’re both pretty fun,” she said.

The annual holiday sale is a major fundraiser for the St. Croix Landmarks Society.
Stanley Tucci Movies, Stanley Tucci

Stanley Tucci Movies, along with his former “Devil Wears Prada” co-star Emily Blunt, was a guest on The View today to talk about his new movie, “The Lovely Bones.” Things got awkward as Elisabeth Hasselbeck asked Tucci about whether his wife had seen the film – his wife who passed away in April. Tucci was asked by Whoopi Goldberg if he read the book. “My wife had read the book and the first thing she said was ‘you can’t do that,’” he said. “And she might have been right, I don’t know. No, then I read the script and then later I read the book. I couldn’t almost focus on the book in its entirety, it’s too painful.”
Hasselbeck followed up with: “Has she seen it..has she seen any parts of it?”
Tucci quickly said, “No, no, no,” and turned to Barbara Walters, who tried to change the subject. “Well, you know, can I just ask something about that? Would you let your children see this?” she asked, to which Tucci also replied ‘no.’
Tucci’s wife of 14 years, Kate, passed away in April after a battle with breast cancer. It would have helped to make sure all the hosts were aware of that.
